What happens to my will after I download it?
Platform
After you download your will from WillsConnect, you need to complete a few important steps to make it legally valid.
Step 1: Print your will
- Print on good quality paper
- Print all pages
- Don't bind or staple pages together (can look suspicious)
Step 2: Sign with witnesses
This is crucial for validity:
- Gather two witnesses (both 18+, not beneficiaries, present together)
- You sign the will while both witnesses watch
- Both witnesses then sign while you and each other are present
- Everyone must be in the same room at the same time
Step 3: Store safely
- Keep original in safe place (fireproof safe, with solicitor, etc.)
- Tell your executors where it's stored
- Consider registering with National Will Register
Step 4: Copies
- You can download and print multiple copies
- Give copies to executors if you want (mark them clearly as copies)
- Original is what matters legally
We also provide:
- Secure digital storage of your will in your WillsConnect account
- Ability to download again anytime
- Access if you need to update later
Your WillsConnect account remains active, so you always have access to your will documents.
